The University of Maryland Resident and Fellow Alliance (UMRFA) has voted unanimously to approve its first union contract with the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). This deal marks a historic win for Baltimore’s healthcare workers.

Major Gains in Pay and Benefits

The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) delivers a 20% pay increase over three years. Residents will see an 8% raise in 2025, then 6% in both 2026 and 2027.

Key changes include:

Four weeks of vacation (up from three)
New Labor-Management Committee to address staff concerns
Rideshare program for long shifts
$650 annual parking stipend
$200 annual meal stipend
$1,500 for education and exam costs (up from $500)
