Why Work Injury Recovery is Taking Longer—and Who’s Helping

Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) online article – June 12, 2025 –

What the 2025 Travelers Injury Impact Report Found
The Travelers 2025 Injury Impact Report, which analyzed over 2.6 million workers’ compensation claims, compared the five years before the COVID-19 pandemic with the five years since. The results show three disturbing trends:

  1. Longer recovery times
  2. Higher injury claim costs
  3. Increased time out of work

“Over the past decade, we’ve seen three trends intensify: increasing retirement ages, ongoing employee turnover, and longer injury recovery times,” said Rich Ives, SVP of Business Insurance Claims at Travelers.

Construction Workers Hit Hardest
Construction workers experienced the highest average days out of work—a staggering 115 days, up from 101 days five years ago. The cost of these claims was also nearly double that of other industries combined.

This is especially troubling for firefighters, laborers, and first responders—groups RescueMeds proudly supports. These extended recoveries and higher costs often mean more delays, more red tape, and more stress for injured workers trying to heal.

Recovery Takes Longer—But RescueMeds Makes It Easier

The study found the average injured worker now misses 80 days of work, up more than 7 days compared to pre-pandemic data. That’s a lot of time without income, stability, or certainty.

At RescueMeds, we believe recovery shouldn’t come with complications. That’s why we offer:

  • Fast, FREE next-day prescription delivery
  • No out-of-pocket costs
  • No prior authorization headaches
  • Real-time support from expert pharmacists

How Employers Can Help
As the cost of workers’ comp claims grows, employers must take steps to reduce injury severity and support faster recovery:

Work with pharmacies like RescueMeds that understand workers’ comp

Educate employees about their rights to treatment and prescriptions

Choose patient-centered solutions that remove delays

Final Word

The cost of a workplace injury isn’t just financial—it’s personal. At RescueMeds, we’re working to shorten recovery times and reduce stress for injured workers and the employers who care about them.
